5-GALLON GAS CAN HOLDERS
My light-weight, welded aluminum, black powder
coated, roof rack gas can holders were designed
to hold 5-gallon gas tanks on their sides reducing
vertical profile and wind resistance. They
are excellent "tool" cribs when the
cans aren't in them (the can holders ARE strong
enough to mount vertically as a stand alone holder
anywhere). I made my can holders in single
and double, side-by-side configuration.
They are fabricated with drain ports and bungee
attach holes. I've made a few of these for
my friends and they cost about $100 for the single
and $110 for the double to make.
I did not supply mounting hardware when I made
them due to the infinite number of mounting combinations
out there. I left the mounting configuration up
to the users so I don't pre-drill the bottoms.
My friends who have them have been sandwiching
the roof rack rails between the can holder and
a piece of angle iron or flat-plate on each end
of the holder. One configuration has the
cans bolted directly to the rails with self-tapping
screws, another configuration has channel bolts
going through the can holder with flat plate under
the rack floor rails, and another is bolting
his can holders directly to the aluminum floor
of the roof rack.
They are not difficult to make and they work
well. If you would like something like this
and don't want to make them yourselves, I'll be
happy to make some for you. Just drop me
